As a nurse I do not wear makeup to work most shifts but when I do I like something simple yet bold. What better way to bring those elements together than an everyday simple look with a bold lip! The best thing about this look is that you would only need to use 6 products to recreate it.
First we have the primer. I have a post with my top 3 primers Here. It explains what the product does and how to apply it.
Next you apply the foundation. There are many foundations out there that are a good product at a good price. In my opinion the L’Oreal True match is perfect for my skin type (normal/oily) and the Lumi when I feel my skin is dry. This foundation lasts all 12-13 hour shifts, still looks dewy and in place by the end of my night. The cover up is great, it applies sheer but you can build on it.
To warm up my face and give it some shape I use bronzer. I love this bronzer because it gives me a bit of a tan without making me look orange. I use it on my cheeks with a heavier hand at the hallows of my cheeks to contour and help sculpt my face. I also use a little on my temples and right below my hair line to bring more warmth to my face.
To balance off the dark shades of the bronzer, you can bring light to your face with highlighter. You apply the highlighter right on the tops of your cheek bones, down the bridge of your nose, the tip of your nose (I know this sounds weird but it works, just trust me), and on your cupids bow (the V over your upper lip). This is a great drugstore highlighter, it is a white color with bits of gold in it making it a great color for all skin types.
You cannot have a complete face without some mascara. This helps bring attention to your eyes and make you look a little more fresh and open eyed. I just discovered this mascara in a recent subscription box and I am obsessed. Most of the time it makes my eyelashes look so long that I don’t feel like I need fake lashes, especially for an everyday look at the hospital.
The bold lip is a trend right now! I find the Wet n Wild lipsticks are great, they have a large variety of colors and the price is amazing. When I saw this color I knew I had to have it, I can wear it right now for a warm winter look but can also use it year round changing my day look to a night out look.
This product is completely optional, I cannot live without it. This is a setting spry, which helps your makeup last longer. As one of my coworkers said to me once “It’s like a hairspray for your face” gotta love her. Yes very similar to what a hairspray does, helps keep your makeup in place. This is essential for me when I’m on shift, my makeup needs to make it through 12 hours of hard work. The last thing I need to worry about is whether my makeup is still in place.
I hope this is helpful for all those who are starting to wear makeup, feel like makeup is too complicated and those that get overwhelmed with the thought of makeup. Remember makeup does not have to change you, it can help enhance your beauty.
Feel inspired, thank you for stopping by!
